Lee Meadows, the Hot Mess Hero
Roundhouse was created by Duke Stewart, it can be read on Webtoon, Tapas, and Instagram
Welcome back to the blog! There have been some big and complicated blogs back to back, so it's time for another palette cleanser. Here's another character that I really got into this year that's a lot easier to cover! I highly recommend Roundhouse, and I hope this blog illustrates why you should check it out.
Background
"I beg of you, do not take this opportunity to beat me to a pulp with this crowbar."
What if you were the only person in the world with superpowers? Seems like a huge responsibility to ensure you don't abuse your unfathomable powers. For today's subject, living with superpowers is as much of a blessing as it is a curse.
Meet Ophelia Francis Meadows, better known as Lee Meadows, an eccentric twenty year-old criminology major from Parnell, New Zealand, who happens to be the only superhuman on Earth. Since she was little, she has had super strength, the ability to fly, and other incredible superpowers. Not much is known about the origin of her powers, her mysterious pointy elf ears, or why she has such strong distaste for wearing shoes. Regardless, she has selflessly chosen to use her powers for good whenever she can. She fights criminals, helps the elderly cross the street, and rescues dogs from trees. She has never needed to hide her identity mostly because she can't think of a cool superhero name, and the police are on good terms with her. Her reputation proceeds her, but she isn't exactly world famous. Still, life should be pretty simple as a hometown hero, right?
The problem is that Lee is a living dumpster fire of a human being.
She’s a barely functioning and irresponsible trainwreck who's prone to all sorts of carnage. When it comes to balancing her adult responsibilities and superhero work, she is self-sabotage incarnate. Lee's reckless behavior and lack of real training has led to all sorts of spectacular flops at her own expense. Her best friends/roommates Freddy and Basil are often the witnesses to her chaotic blunders and quirks. She has made tons of mistakes on the job too, as there is an entire organization dedicated to reimbursing people affected by Lee's property damage.
Lee is fully aware of the power she has and the danger she poses. She always tries to do the right thing, but it's taking a toll on her mental health. She feels like she’s the only one who can shoulder the responsibility of being this untouchable superhero, and wishes there was someone out there who could relate to her struggles. She's a big fish in a small pond, and this has made her feel a little jaded. More than anything, she longs for an arch nemesis who can spice up her life.
Thankfully, there are many people in her life who care about her who try to give her insightful advice and steer her in the right direction. They help her prioritize her well being and ensure her that it's okay that she doesn't need to be at the top of her game all the time. Adulting is confusing, and she's far from the only one struggling to make ends meet.
So, until she meets her match, she'll do what she can to make her double life somewhat manageable.
Experience and Intelligence
Lee mostly deals with small scale problems, stuff akin to bank robberies. Although Lee lacks any proper training in combat, she has never really needed it, as she remains unparalleled in her strength. She is used to being underestimated due to her small stature, and frequently uses that to totally shock her foes. The only being to give her a smidge of a challenge was a kea bird she was handling (classic Lee).
While she is clumsy and has poor studying habits, Lee is about as smart as any average 20 year-old, if a bit brazen.

Abilities
Flight
Lee soars in the air with zero difficulty. She even has a habit of sleepflying, which her pals occasionally have to deal with.

Invulnerability
Nothing has ever been able to damage Lee's body before. The most deadly thing she shrugged off was a grenade exploding.

Sonic Scream
She once screamed so loud, she broke nearby wine bottles.

Super Strength
Sure, she isn't a heavy hitter compared to other superheroes of her ilk, but being the most powerful human on the planet is nothing to scoff at. She's strong enough to lift flip a car for Pete's sake!

Self-Sustenance (Type 1)
In space, no one can hear you question your life choices.

Ice Breath
By blowing really hard, she can freeze surfaces. One time she blew into her hands so hard on a chilly day that she accidentally froze them.

"Heat Vision"

Full disclosure, part of my research went into exploring the author's Patreon. The most relevant part that could be featured on the blog was the in-character q&a sketches. One of which asked the author if Lee had heat vision. Considering the art is Patreon exclusive, I'm not going to post the image on this blog. If you wanna see it for yourself, please support Duke's patreon. Instead, I will summarize what happens.
The image features an anomalous form of energy shooting out of Lee's eyes and mouth as Freddy reads a newspaper in the background. The text reads "yeah, she has heat vision." However, this confirmation is contradicted in the description, which states: “I mean, calling that radioactive super-burp "heat vision" is kind of charitable, but when you parody a thing like Superman, you go full pelt." Regardless of what it qualifies as, she can shoot dangerous stuff out of her eyes and mouth.
Resistances
- Heat resistance: She remained unfazed as a hot pan was on her hand
- Electrcity resistance: Getting struck by lightning must be a bad omen……

Matchup Potential
It's pretty hard to come up with a matchup for Lee, mainly since she's a comedic superhero who is incredibly low scale. Her powerset is really simple and she only reaches wall level, so I'd really prefer a character in that ballpark. The comedy and dialog potential are aspects I'd also prioritize a Lee MU. Perhaps even someone she could consider a nemesis? That may be a reach though.
I've already rejected some opponent suggestions in the past. Saiki Kusuo's powerset and scale are way too much for her. Word Girl is…… something, alright… Hancock just doesn't vibe. I figure someone would try and suggest someone along the likes of Saitama, but not only is it way too stompy for me, but he really can't banter with Lee well.
