McBell Isn't Clowning Around in DEATH BATTLE!

Mary McBell, Serial Burglar Turned Crime-Fighting Clown

Clown Corps was created by Joe Chouinard, it can be read on its own website

Welcome back to the blog! Here's another case of me randomly reading a comic, only to become swiftly convinced that it's amazing and that I wanna cover it on my blog ASAP. Webcomics about crime-fighting clowns aren't as uncommon as you'd expect, and this is easily the best I've read among that niche. Clown Corps is easily one of my favorite series I've read this year, so I highly recommend checking it out. Alright alright, I'll stop clowning around and get to the meat of this. Enjoy!!

Background

"If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people holding their power over everyone else. It's why I started robbing billionaires. I just wanted to make things better. Still do. So if being a clown means I can help people... then sure. I want to be a clown."

Welcome to the city of Pinfall! This extraordinary city is known for its technological advancements and wonderful college programs, and it's so popular that it even attracts billionaires to live there. With all the glitz and glamor, there are those that seek to disrupt Pinfall's peace. Thankfully, the city is well equipped with a beloved—albeit eccentric elite law enforcement organization: the Clown Corps. As the name implies, it's a unit of highly trained clowns that take on missions to take down high profile criminals. They may deliver justice to baddies in nonlethal and comical ways, but their job is anything but funny business. The group's origins date back fifty years when firefighters were trained in the art of clowning to seem less terrifying to the children they rescue. But now they're more like a task force of special agents that are independent of the city's police force. For years the Clown Corps have been operating without much of a hitch, but there's a noticeable shift in the organization's future when a key player enters the fray.

Robberies are typically below the pay grade of clowns, but the schemes of a serial burglar named Mary McBell catch their attention. McBell has been leading heists targeting corrupt billionaires for years. With her quick thinking and inhuman improvisational skills, she's evaded capture for a while. She wasn't so lucky when she attempted to rob a casino owned by the corrupt CEO Alexander Platt. She may have been able to defeat five clowns on her own in her attempt to escape, but she is eventually caught by the seasoned agents Binky and Mustard.

After being arrested, she's driven away by a clown trainee to be jailed and questioned. Suddenly, their drive is thwarted by a bazooka blast shot by a mysterious armed soldier wearing a clown mask. This is the work of the Shadow Circus, a mysterious cult that seeks to take down the Clown Corps, and they had their eyes set on recruiting McBell. Looking into her background, she was a prime candidate to rebel against the Corps. Her outdated lifelong dream was to become a clown, even applying to the Clown College where eager youths are trained to join the Corps. Unfortunately her personal essay was rejected and her ingenious talents went unnoticed, leading her to turn to a life of crime. The Shadow Circus used this recruitment technique on others in the past: stage a freak vehicular accident, rescue them after they flee the scene, and recruit them with their leader's infectious ideology.

However, the Shadow Circus made one crucial error: misjudging McBell's character. She may be a criminal, but instead of saving her own hide she went out of her way to rescue the clown trainee that was driving her. This leads her to fall into the hands of the clowns and be tried for her crimes. Mustard acts as her lawyer, having looked into her background too. She argued that McBell's skills made her more than qualified to attend Clown College, even if she didn't make it in all those years ago. On top of that, her display of selfless qualities is worthy of recognition. Instead of going to the slammer, Mustard gives her the choice of serving four years as a student at Pinfall Clown College. Obviously she takes the better choice, who wouldn't wanna go to Clown College? Mustard sees her joining not only as a path to redemption, but also for self-discovery. It'll give McBell a chance to figure out who she really is. It's also a win for the Clown Corps since McBell is a suspicious character they want to prod for information, so now she'll always be in their line of sight.

Letting McBell enroll became a heated subject among the Clown Corps, but her criminal background was kept under wraps when she arrived on campus. McBell had lost her drive to become a clown like she had before. She thought of this opportunity as something she could cruise through and get over with, and she didn't have a plan on what she'd do after graduating. She'd try to avoid making friends and keep a low profile, but it's difficult for her to maintain that. She doesn't have a clown name or a routine (major) she's focusing on, she breaks all standard rules and traditions of combat, and word got out that she got into the school without taking the entrance exam. Not only that, but Mustard teaches at the campus too, and frequently has one-on-one chats with her, catching the attention of others.

As months pass during Mustard and Binky's investigation of the Shadow Circus, McBell is slowly starting to open up to others. Her criminal background does get unveiled to her dismay, but at this point most people suspected that was the case and was still largely accepted. She takes a liking to training in the ways of a field agent, but she still doesn't have a routine she follows. While her semester was filled with lots of field training, typical college shenanigans, and becoming more open to the idea of being a clown, everything would change during a field trip to the Pinfall Science Center. What started out as a fun outing learning about how their tech works turned into a clown-on-clown brawl against the Shadow Circus. If training against her peers didn't push her enough, then the Circus' secret weapon Echo the Mime forced her into a true life or death situation. Echo mastered all routines students at Clown College practice, so any wrong move and McBell would be toast. The evil mime would run circles around and counter any other clown, but this fight cemented to the Clown Corps that McBell was special. Since she didn't follow any routine and, Echo had no skills she could mimic. Thus, McBell's amazing improvisational skills drove her and the Shadow Circus away. What's especially inspiring is that she was the first one to jump into action during the Circus' raid. No clown dared set foot out of the room they were holed up in until McBell took it upon herself to rescue the missing dean. Ironically enough, the person who didn't want to be a clown acted the most like a clown out of everyone in the room. Others followed her example.

Not only was McBell cleared of suspicion that day, but after her amazing showing and her lack of routine revealed as Echo's main weakness, the Clown Corps director gives her choice to be their secret weapon. This time, she's eager to take this opportunity. While having a new ace in the hole is a great boon for the Clown Corps, things aren't looking too well for them otherwise. The entire Corps is now aware of the Shadow Circus and Pinfall now knows something is up. The Circus' mission is starting to take root as the city's mayor starts cracking down on the Corps and issues some glaring changes. And then there's the Shadow Circus itself, which Binky and Mustard have been uncovering many disturbing developments regarding it.

Regardless, if there's one clown who will be able to shift the war in their favor, it's McBell. If she can really make things better for others if she's working as an agent, then she'll be a damn good clown.

Equipment

Pie Gloves

All clowns have a signature weapon or ability they use that correlates to their routine to non-lethally defeat criminals. McBell may lack a routine, but she's taken a liking to wielding a secondary weapon used by clowns: custard pies. Field agents are equipped with special gloves made by their very own technology department that function as teleportation devices. Teleportation tech is only limited to small objects with low density, so custard pies were the most fitting choice because of course they are. Pies are stored at a cache owned by the Corps, and are transferred through the fingertips of the gloves, appearing instantly and intangibly. This tech works by confusing an object's atoms into thinking they're in the incorrect place. Since it's a cache used widely by clowns, she can spam as many as she wants. There are different types of pie gloves that summon special variations of pies, but McBell was able to hastily rig her gloves so she could summon numerous types of pies in seven of her fingers. Here are the types of pies she has access to:
  • Capturing pies: The most standard of pies, their custard is incredibly sticky, making it an excellent tool to subdue foes. However, McBell has thought outside the box in her ways of using it. She can use them to safely scale down buildings or bandage up wounds (don't worry, they're made with nontoxic adhesives)
  • Ossified wall pies: Throwing down this pie forms a rigid wall in front of her. It's great for blocking incoming attacks, but she's used it to build large stairs up buildings too
  • Fire extinguishing pies: When broken, these pies unleash floods of red custard. Using this in conjunction with her other pies leads to some interesting results
  • Elastic pies: These brand of pies are very bouncy, powerful enough to launch her ossified pie walls into the air

Boxing Gloves

McBell has wielded boxing gloves during her sparring match against her friend and trainer Bout. Expectedly, she's managed to use these gloves in creative ways, like shooting both from the ring around a boxing ring like a slingshot. She also hides her pie gloves under those in case anyone dares underestimate her willingness to cheat

Abilities

Improvisation

Every clown has a routine they follow, which is their equivalent of a college major focusing on a specific clown proficiency. Take for instance a clown skilled in fighting with balloons or a clown specializing in skateboards. Because they’re locked in that single skill, that makes them easy to predict. McBell on the flipside doesn’t play by the rules. Sure she’s good with pies, but she doesn’t use them just for throwing. As described previously, she's used specialized pies outside their typical usage. And now that she has multiple types of pies at her disposal, she can use them in conjunction with each other in unique ways. She brainstorms insanely creative strategies on the fly and is highly adaptive to circumstance and fighting styles. No matter what setting she's placed in, she'll utilize everything in it to her advantage to get the jump on her opponent.

Fourth Wall Breaks

Of all the frequent fourth wall breakers in webcomics, I didn't expect McBell would be the first one I'd ever cover. Of course she cheated her way into that position, she's Mary honking McBell. McBell makes many meta jokes no one else understands. She repeatedly makes references to this world being a comic, commented on events in the story she isn't a part of and wouldn't know about without meta knowledge, addresses the readers, and she even sped up the continuity in her story by writing "later that day" on a piece of paper and holding it in front of the following panel. The author's alt text (hovering your mouse over the page on the Clown Corps site) for that page states "Don't worry she doesn't get to do that too often. Pretty sure it's a 9th level spell."

Enhanced Agility

Just look at her flippin' and dippin' all over the place

Techniques

Martial Arts

She's skilled in at least three different martial arts, two of which are boxing and kickboxing

Feats

Overall

  • Defeated five clown trainee agents while attempting burglary
  • Scaled down Alexander Platt's tower using capturing pier
  • Ringleader in various crimes of grand larceny. Over the course of a year, she stole $850,000
  • Defeated Binky's boxer clown son Bout after he trained her. Bout had the highest score out of anyone in the entrance exams and was personally trained by Binky himself
  • Forced the Shadow Circus’ mime Echo to flee
  • Made a bunch of pie walls to run up like stairs, then used a fire extinguisher pie to flood down the steps to wash away Echo
  • While her fight with Echo was on a rotating platform in the air, she backflipped off the platform as it rotated in her direction, landing on it as it flipped over

Strength

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

  • When it comes to by-the-books combat, McBell fights like someone who trained a lot while young, then took a few years off and didn’t return to basics
  • After being rejected from Clown College before, she never truly recovered. Back then, she made becoming a clown her defining train, but without it she wasn't sure who she was anymore. Even after attending the school of her previous dreams, she doesn’t really understand herself yet
  • She has physically and psychologically played herself on multiple occasions

Matchup Potential

McBell is such a fucking cool protagonist, one of my favorites I've encountered in any webcomic. She's a hilarious quip machine, her journey of self-discovery is relatable, and her fighting style is nothing like any I've seen before. She'd be such a fun character to include on Death Battle. If she were to fight anyone, I'd want it to focus less on her fighting another clown, and more so someone that's part of a nontraditional or wacky organization of special agents. Same goes for a reforming criminal who isn't afraid to break traditions to serve justice. Given the low scale of the series I doubt she'd win many matchups she'd potentially get, but she'd totally steal the show dynamically.

DEATH BATTLE Beholds Coral!

Coral, 38th Holder of the Void

Coral of the Void was created by WeFlapsComics, it can be read on Webtoon

Welcome back to the blog! This blog is an interesting case. Recently, Coral of the Void completely rebooted its series so it can have a plot-focused narrative. I was planning on making a Coral blog for a while, so I'm glad I decided to do it after the series rebooted. That way I can update it as more episodes release. I should mention that there is a new side series called "Tales From the Void" that is comprised of the short stories from previous Coral comics before the narrative main comic released. However, Tales does not align with the current canon in numerous ways, such as Cody meeting Cthulhu for the first time. I have tried contacting the author to ask if the Tales comics are canon, but I have received no response. For the time being, feats and abilities exclusive to Tales From the Void will NOT be included. With that being said, let's dive into the void!

Background

"I should be grateful… to have a friend as powerful as this in my life."

Since the dawn of the universe, beings across the cosmos held the responsibility of keeping it safe from eldritch horrors that seek complete destruction. Each one wielded the very power that created our big and bountiful universe: the Void. There have been 37 different holders of the Void in the past, each one becoming the head of a group known as the Void Core. The Void Core is made of aliens across multiple galaxies that fight anomalous entities that threaten everything we hold dear. While the Void Holder is exceptionally powerful, each individual in the Void Core makes up for the shortcomings of the holder, as they have special abilities the holder lacks. After the death of the 37th holder, the Void makes its way to Earth for the first time. The one the Void chose to be the most powerful creature in the universe is… a five month-old American shorthair.

Coral only just gained her powers and ability to speak, and she's already one of the most unpredictable and feisty holders the universe has ever seen. Imagine giving the most power and knowledge in all of reality to a cat. She's smug, confident, and demanding of attention. She's hot shit and she knows it, and now she's the deadliest creature alive. However, she's still a cat and wants a human, or as she says "hooman," who can shelter her and tend to her every need.

She couldn't have discovered a more fitting owner in the form of Cody. Cody's a lonely average joe with a knack for art. What makes him special is that his aura is brimming with arcane energy. He's the only arcane user on the planet and he doesn't even realize it. Cody is instantly smitten by the kitten and adopts her, taking her home. On their way back, they're jumped by a hypnotizing worm monster. That's when Coral shows her true colors and saves her owner. Surprisingly, Cody deals with the fact that his kitty talks and is incredibly powerful. After what he just witnessed, he had to believe everything she told him about her powers and Void Core.

Coral sees potential in Cody as an arcane user, and wants to help him realize his powers and possibly even join her organization. She dedicates herself to mentoring him how to use his powers and bring him to Void Core as ambassador of Earth. In turn, her hooman shall treat her like a queen and care for her. She's very independent from Cody—often going out to do Void Core operations‚ but she still relies on him to pamper her.

As she teaches him the ways of arcane magic, she constantly has to thwart cosmic horrors that threaten their peaceful life. Not only that, but Coral has caught the attention of a mysterious organization that monitors strange phenomena. With disturbing anomalies popping up left and right, Coral determines either her presence has awaken all the planet's horrors, or that there is another arcane user out there who doesn't take kindly to people getting close to Cody. No matter what aliens and eldritch beasts come their way, Coral will always make one thing clear: don't gaze into the Void, or she will stare back.

Equipment

N/A

Abilities

The Void

Aura and Arcane Energy Manipulation

Aura is a practitioner of aura manipulation and arcane magic, and is able to see the aura and arcane energy of others

Resistances

  • Hypnotism immunity (Eldritch beings are known for their mind control, so she resists mind hax)
  • Mind manipulation immunity (Many cosmic horrors have some dangerous mind bending hax, so Coral is well equipped to resist them with the Void. Coral is able to tell when beings like Cthulhu are trying to invade her mind, tough luck for him)

Portal Creation

Her void portals can reach any part of the universe, making transporting items from her home to Void Corp and getting rid of pesky monsters a cinch.

Barrier Creation, Visibility Manipulation, and Energy Absorption

She can create barriers that can allow anyone with low enough arcane energy to pass through. Beings with low enough energy tend to be your average euclidean beings like humans and animals. To eldritch horrors, her shields may seem primitive. Her small shields take no time to prepare and aren't enhanced with any type of incantation. Yet if a being were to attack it, the shield absorbs the energy completely. Void Holders aren't naturally talented at making barriers with numerous complex rules applied to them. She can only add 1-2 rules to her barriers at a time, like turning the barrier invisible or opening a gap in it to leave. Only arcane users would be able to bypass their invisibility.

Battlefield Removal

Coral can send whatever and whoever she doesn't like through a portal into the dankness of space, or anywhere really.

Enhanced and Supernatural Senses

Coral is always alert to dangers lurking on any corner, especially when it comes to world-threatening abominations.

Supernatural Tracking

A variation of enhanced senses. Coral's senses span the entire Earth, likely even beyond. Once, she pinpointed the exact location of an eldritch horror waking up that she could sense across half the planet (from Michigan to the Atlantic ocean specifically).

Platform Creation

Her travels may take her to areas devoid of land. To make up for this, she can make platforms out of void energy.

Possibly Seal Removal

Coral gaining her powers is potentially what caused Cthulhu to awaken from his seal

Flight

Look at her gooooo

Incantations

By conjuring abstract symbols and uttering some magic words, she can access even powerful skills than what she usually does. Can also use hand motions to amplify her attacks and other abilities

Binding Contracts

Sometimes, it's in an eldritch creature's best interest to agree to a magical binding contract than become completely obliterated. This ensures they won't act out of line while keeping their life.

Statistics Manipulation

She can alter how powerful her own abilities are as easy as turning on a light switch.

Enhanced Strength and Durability

As an arcane user, her cells are smaller and more packed together, which makes her tougher overall.

Tentacle Constructs

Coral can summon void tentacles from her portals to ensnare people

Enhanced Hearing

Much like her enhanced tracking, Coral has exceptional hearing

Perception Manipulation

With an incantation, she can make her barriers blur the view of anything viewing it from the outside. This affects technology too.

Techniques

Warp Cut

Tail swipe makes a crescent projectile of void energy. She can shoot it out or whip it around with her tail

Warp Gates

Coral creates slit-like void portals called Warp Gates so that projectiles may enter them, before showering upon her foe in an x-shaped portal above them

Shielding

Coral can pool arcane energy around specific parts of her body to deflect arcane projectiles

Feats

Overall

  • As the wielder of the Void, she's the strongest known creature in the universe
  • Pinpointed the exact location of a being waking up across half the planet
  • Had Cthulhu under her hypothetical thumb right after he woke up from his slumber of thousands of years

Strength

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

  • Coral only recently realized her powers and humanlike sentience. Even at such a young state she is immensely powerful and prodigious thanks to the Void providing her with the necessary knowledge and skills, but it should still be noted how inexperienced she is
  • Coral doesn't let her powers get to her head, but that doesn't stop her from having a huge ego
  • Any arcane users with powers comparable to her own would be able to break through her barriers
  • There has never been a Void Holder who was naturally talented in creating complex barriers or manipulating primal energy

Matchup Potential

Coral vs Kitty Jenkins (Coral of the Void vs F*ck You Kitty Jenkins)

(thumbnail by Vibe Check)

Vibe Check

Connections: Two cosmic cat webcomic protagonists that may seem cutesy in nature, but are far more dangerous than one could ever imagine. They are the guardians of their universes and bear immense power, helping maintain the status quo of their worlds. While Coral is a cat whose job is to hunt eldritch beings, Kitty Jenkins is as eldritch as it gets.

Before the reboot, Coral was a lot more unhinged. She uses her powers more often for her own pleasure and has screwed over the lives of others for the fun of it. While the reboot is still in its early stages, Coral is a lot more dignified than how she previously was. Gone is the chaotic wild card before, now she is the chaotic smug asshole who relishes in her own power, while also being a big mentor figure. So putting her against a genuine eldritch threat really enhances the contrasts of this matchup.

I'd be down to make a blog on Kitty Jenkins sometime. He's a magical three-eyed space cat who pops into people's lives and sends them on journeys through time and meowter space that they don't want to go on. In the end, they learn nothing, and often results in irreparable damage to their lives. He's the exact type of fucky being Coral would hunt down to deal with, so that really helps tell a story throughout the fight. Since Coral is experienced fighting reality-threatening horrors, she'd be able to handle his insane barrage of hax and screwball powers during the battle.

However, the ending likely wouldn't go well for Coral, as the debate sums it best. While Coral inherited the power that created the universe, Kitty Jenkins is responsible for the entire cosmology of his series. And the cosmology of his series is a lot more abstract and expansive than just a universe. While the fight would be largely comedic, over time, I want it to become clear that something's wrong. By the time Kitty Jenkins reveals the full scope of his influence over all realities, it's too late. He's on a scale she can't begin to comprehend. Kitty Jenkins is a very psychedelic and weird series, so I'd like the death to really reflect the bizarre dread the series is known for.

Amon Relishes in DEATH BATTLE!

Amon, the Godslaying Mollusk Knight

Amunito was created by Hambonous it can be read on Tapas, Newgrounds, and Tumblr

Welcome back to the blog! It's been a while since I've taken the risk of researching a blog lacking in content. Last time I did that was with Nog from Just a Goblin when it only had fifteen episodes. However, that was a Webtoon Original, which have a set release schedule and are unlikely to cancel. When it comes to more independent series, there's no telling when content will release and how long the series will continue before it gets cancelled, put on an indefinite hiatus, or stops updating without warning or reason. Amunito has a full volume finished, but the story is only starting to unfold. Even so, I reeeeeally wanted to talk about this series. It's one of my favorites I discovered this year and I hope this blog will bring more attention to it. Lemme show you why.

Background

"All of these fools, crying for something that's already dead… disgusting."

The sun beats down on two guards protecting a bridge to the city of Egonia. Peaceful as the weather may be, their tranquility doesn't last long. Out of nowhere, a large creature barrels its way towards the guards before crashing in front of them, dead. As it lays flat on its side, the guards realize the creature is an ocean mollusk. Its appearance here is surprising since the last ocean dried up completely a few months ago. This animal could have been the last of its kind, having lived off of ponds or streams up to this point. As they ponder about the situation, the corpse starts to swell before they're drenched in an explosion of gooey flesh.

Out of the cadaver rises a knight with a mollusk-like helmet, who inquires if this is the path towards Egonia. One of the guards confirms it and lets them pass through. As the other guard chokes him out for letting a trespasser go through, they explain that whoever crawled out of that corpse felt like an intimidating beast. If they did anything to stop them, they'd die where they stood.

That sentiment couldn't have been any more accurate, as they just let a complete monster into the city. This is Amon, a knight on a mission to kill the godlike Seven Sages. To preface, every living being depends on a constant flow of energy to thrive. Since the beginning of time, the energy comes from a source called The Chalice. Long ago it was abundant with power, but as time passed, people realized they could bend energy from the Chalice Plants to their own will, resulting in the birth of magic. After this information was discovered, many sought to absorb as much energy as they could. However, the very Seven Sages that were tasked with protecting it were blinded by power and drank from it, becoming gods. Thanks to them, the Chalice is nearly completely empty, which has resulted in the world progressively shriveling up and dying.

One of the sages Toro realized what they were doing was wrong, deciding to reclaim the stolen energy and return it to the Chalice. However, he had no means of taking on the remaining six sages due to being shackled to a floating temple, literally holding the world together by its center. All he could do was send heroes to take on this mission in his place. However, each one would perish once they reached Egonia, home of the first sage Ego. After so many losses, Toro needed to change his strategy. Instead of making a hero his champion, he needed a villain. Someone so irredeemably vile, despicable, and totally apathetic towards all life that they'd use any immoral or underhanded tactics to seize victory. That's when he elected Amon as his newest herald, causing the wheels of fate to turn once more. With only three months left until no magic remains in the world, Amon sets off on their mission.

When they reach Egonia, Amon meets a nice yet naive kappa named Kabo, who agrees to lead them to Ego's castle. There they meet its ruler, the flamboyant and self-obsessed Ego. After a demonstration of his overwhelming strength, Kabo decides they need to get the hell out of here. However, Amon requires them in order to defeat Ego. Despite wanting nothing to do with the knight, the kappa agrees to their plan of sneaking into his mirror-filled castle with Amon's knife to smash open a mirror to strip him of his immortality.

Amon and Ego's fight is drawn out and intense, but it goes on long enough for Kabo to find the right mirror and break it. Amon does win in the end, but Ego has one last trick up his sleeve. Egonia itself is a part of his very essence, and if he dies, so does the city. Left too injured to leave by their fight, they rely on the kappa once more to lead them out of the crumbling city.

Once they make it back to Toro, the sage sees a spark in Kabo, as if fate has great plans for them as well. However, Kabo nearly loses themselves after learning they're an accomplice to the destruction of Egonia. As they argue with Amon, Kabo has enough of their squabbles and instantly vaporizes and reforms both to grab their attention. Toro requires that Kabo join them on their mission, but in order to make them cooperative, he alters their memory to make them believe they stopped Ego without the loss of thousands of innocent lives. He forces Amon to vow to never speak the truth, or the spell will be broken. Amon was planning on eating Kabo as a snack on the road, but so long as Toro helps them achieve their goals, they'll begrudgingly agree.

After the two regain their bodies and Kabo is filled in on the lore, they become Amon's partner in crime to slay the remaining sages and return their stolen energy back to the Chalice.

One down, five remain.

Equipment

Usago

Usago is essentially a living backpack that absorbs magical items to store them and amplify them.

Daggers

He stores multiple daggers inside their usago. You can tell it's magic because of the weird gooey effects on the white parts of it.

Omnibus Scroll

A piece of paper that lets him perform a powerful spell called Omnibus. I'll elaborate on that later.

Protective Talismans

You know Amon is a sneaky underhanded bastard when he uses stuff like these. They hide protective talismans under their clothing to minimize magical and physical damage their body receives.

Mollusk Knight Body

You see that purple thing? THAT'S Amon. The knight is basically a lifeless flesh puppet they control from within the helmet like a parasite. They don't feel pain so long as their head isn't targeted, but their body can become wounded enough that it's rendered useless.

Storage Bubble

Amon's miscellaneous non-magical items are stored in this little bubble. This storage unit shrinks objects and places them inside it. It runs on magic, and since the amount of it in the world is steadily decreasing, it's on the verge of bursting. Thus, Amon makes Kabo their de facto storage replacement with their bottomless belly.

Abilities

Magic

Amon is an impeccably skilled mage with all sorts of tricky spells under their sleeves. I'll dissect each more once I reach the techniques section.

Resistances

Corpse Possession

Amon is able to take control of any dead body they enter

Techniques

Saranir

Saranir is a spell that conjures a shield and wings with red eyes peppered around them. These eyes are able to show Amon the near future, allowing them to predict and sidestep attacks. The eyes also see through illusions.

Krackelsprat

Amon forms a ball of electricity, which they hurl at their opponent. Like Saranir, floating eye-like appendages appear behind them and their helmet and shoulder pads are decorated with strips.

Armanos Spinas

This spell creates a spiky sea urchin-like armor around Amon to block attacks. Amon's helmet and shoulder pads become spikier

Omnibus

Performing this spell requires a scroll with the insignia of it. When activated, it triggers a trippy transformation sequence before the area is encased inside a giant dome. The inside is an ancient arena filled with massive crusty statues. The spell won't dissipate until one of them is slain in combat. While the dome is made of magic, not even a god can break through it.

Refir

Amon shoots out glass shards that form a mirror shield that magically levitates around themselves. They can create two at once and move the mirrors in any direction around themselves

Rapazir

Rapazir conjures a rapier that was forged from a creature that sucks the juices out of its prey. The sword has the same ability, able to drain the essence of their opponent to make the sword stronger. The rapier has a limit to how much essence it can absorb at once. It will melt if the essence is too much.

Rapazir Ratza

The rapier can be upgraded into a more decorated and spiky blade called Rapazir Ratza.

Feats

Overall

  • Dwelled inside an ocean mollusk for an unknown amount of time before bursting out of it to reach Egonia. That mollusk very well could’ve been the last of its kind
  • Fought one on one with the immensely powerful sage Ego. After Kabo stripped him of his immortality, they were able to land the killing blow. None of Toro's champions have come close to accomplishing this in the past

Strength

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

  • Amon cannot reuse their spells once performed. To stock back up on spells, they would need Toro to resupply them
  • The same can be said about their knight body, but with the added caveat that Toro can rejuvenate a body a limited number of times
  • Their true body lies in their carapace helmet, making it their greatest weak point

Matchup Potential

Amon vs Wayne (Amunito vs Hylics)

(thumbnail by Vibe Check)

Vibe Check

I should preface this by saying that Wayne vs Klaymen from Hylics is one of my most wanted matchups all time. It has some of the most creative and trippy animation potential out of any MU I've seen, and I'd love to see a fight that's fully made with stop motion. However, that isn't to say that good alts for characters don't exist, and I'd say this is a really cool alt for Wayne.

The connections are as follows: Mysterious warriors with bizarre magic that originate from visually experimental media. Following the guidance of long-lived beings, they go on an adventure in a surreal world and defeat corrupt leaders. Both are known to be incredibly difficult to permanently put down.

This fight has… very experimental potential. Amon has such a visually distinct and esoteric manner of fighting, and Wayne's attacks are completely avant-garde. Not to mention both series have a really washed out and unique color palette that the fight would look visually stunning on all fronts. That's not even mentioning the fact that this fight could be done in stop motion! Then there's the banter, which would be a really interesting clash in ideals. Wayne's not known for being particularly deep, but fighting someone that's so ruthless and horrible can really make his character shine through satisfying dialog.

What I really wanna see presented in this fight is how both are really difficult to kill. Sure, Amon has a bunch of spells and weapons that can easily slay Wayne with, but he'll simply respawn each time. And no matter what bizarre non-euclidean powers Wayne may use on him, Amon won't stand down and push through their body's injuries. The ending would likely have Amon's body in shambles and unable to fight Wayne anymore… so they flee their body to take control of one of the many Wayne corpses littering the battlefield. The ending could really show the sheer experimental brutality that's present in Amunito as Amon brutalizes Wayne, trying to make him stay dead.

As for who wins, definitely Wayne. At the moment, Amon doesn't have any great means of stopping Wayne's respawns. The best I can think of is Omnibus, which can trap Wayne. However, I'm unsure if it would register Wayne as completely dead if he dies and respawns after the barrier dissipates. Omnibus is magic and it's able contain a god, so there's a chance that it could stop Wayne from returning to the Afterlife. However, nothing like that has ever been confirmed to be a side effect of the spell. Then there's Amon's true form. Even if Amon can really slow down his victory by inhabiting the number of corpses Wayne leaves behind, all it takes is for Wayne to crush Amon's true form and the fight's over. Wayne can react to an attack that's specifically stated to be made of photons, so he's likely fast enough to crush their helmet.
