DEATH BATTLE Beholds Coral!

Coral, 38th Holder of the Void

Coral of the Void was created by WeFlapsComics, it can be read on Webtoon

Welcome back to the blog! This blog is an interesting case. Recently, Coral of the Void completely rebooted its series so it can have a plot-focused narrative. I was planning on making a Coral blog for a while, so I'm glad I decided to do it after the series rebooted. That way I can update it as more episodes release. I should mention that there is a new side series called "Tales From the Void" that is comprised of the short stories from previous Coral comics before the narrative main comic released. However, Tales does not align with the current canon in numerous ways, such as Cody meeting Cthulhu for the first time. I have tried contacting the author to ask if the Tales comics are canon, but I have received no response. For the time being, feats and abilities exclusive to Tales From the Void will NOT be included. With that being said, let's dive into the void!

Background

"I should be grateful… to have a friend as powerful as this in my life."

Since the dawn of the universe, beings across the cosmos held the responsibility of keeping it safe from eldritch horrors that seek complete destruction. Each one wielded the very power that created our big and bountiful universe: the Void. There have been 37 different holders of the Void in the past, each one becoming the head of a group known as the Void Core. The Void Core is made of aliens across multiple galaxies that fight anomalous entities that threaten everything we hold dear. While the Void Holder is exceptionally powerful, each individual in the Void Core makes up for the shortcomings of the holder, as they have special abilities the holder lacks. After the death of the 37th holder, the Void makes its way to Earth for the first time. The one the Void chose to be the most powerful creature in the universe is… a five month-old American shorthair.

Coral only just gained her powers and ability to speak, and she's already one of the most unpredictable and feisty holders the universe has ever seen. Imagine giving the most power and knowledge in all of reality to a cat. She's smug, confident, and demanding of attention. She's hot shit and she knows it, and now she's the deadliest creature alive. However, she's still a cat and wants a human, or as she says "hooman," who can shelter her and tend to her every need.

She couldn't have discovered a more fitting owner in the form of Cody. Cody's a lonely average joe with a knack for art. What makes him special is that his aura is brimming with arcane energy. He's the only arcane user on the planet and he doesn't even realize it. Cody is instantly smitten by the kitten and adopts her, taking her home. On their way back, they're jumped by a hypnotizing worm monster. That's when Coral shows her true colors and saves her owner. Surprisingly, Cody deals with the fact that his kitty talks and is incredibly powerful. After what he just witnessed, he had to believe everything she told him about her powers and Void Core.

Coral sees potential in Cody as an arcane user, and wants to help him realize his powers and possibly even join her organization. She dedicates herself to mentoring him how to use his powers and bring him to Void Core as ambassador of Earth. In turn, her hooman shall treat her like a queen and care for her. She's very independent from Cody—often going out to do Void Core operations‚ but she still relies on him to pamper her.

As she teaches him the ways of arcane magic, she constantly has to thwart cosmic horrors that threaten their peaceful life. Not only that, but Coral has caught the attention of a mysterious organization that monitors strange phenomena. With disturbing anomalies popping up left and right, Coral determines either her presence has awaken all the planet's horrors, or that there is another arcane user out there who doesn't take kindly to people getting close to Cody. No matter what aliens and eldritch beasts come their way, Coral will always make one thing clear: don't gaze into the Void, or she will stare back.

Equipment

N/A

Abilities

The Void

Aura and Arcane Energy Manipulation

Aura is a practitioner of aura manipulation and arcane magic, and is able to see the aura and arcane energy of others

Resistances

  • Hypnotism immunity (Eldritch beings are known for their mind control, so she resists mind hax)
  • Mind manipulation immunity (Many cosmic horrors have some dangerous mind bending hax, so Coral is well equipped to resist them with the Void. Coral is able to tell when beings like Cthulhu are trying to invade her mind, tough luck for him)

Portal Creation

Her void portals can reach any part of the universe, making transporting items from her home to Void Corp and getting rid of pesky monsters a cinch.

Barrier Creation, Visibility Manipulation, and Energy Absorption

She can create barriers that can allow anyone with low enough arcane energy to pass through. Beings with low enough energy tend to be your average euclidean beings like humans and animals. To eldritch horrors, her shields may seem primitive. Her small shields take no time to prepare and aren't enhanced with any type of incantation. Yet if a being were to attack it, the shield absorbs the energy completely. Void Holders aren't naturally talented at making barriers with numerous complex rules applied to them. She can only add 1-2 rules to her barriers at a time, like turning the barrier invisible or opening a gap in it to leave. Only arcane users would be able to bypass their invisibility.

Battlefield Removal

Coral can send whatever and whoever she doesn't like through a portal into the dankness of space, or anywhere really.

Enhanced and Supernatural Senses

Coral is always alert to dangers lurking on any corner, especially when it comes to world-threatening abominations.

Supernatural Tracking

A variation of enhanced senses. Coral's senses span the entire Earth, likely even beyond. Once, she pinpointed the exact location of an eldritch horror waking up that she could sense across half the planet (from Michigan to the Atlantic ocean specifically).

Platform Creation

Her travels may take her to areas devoid of land. To make up for this, she can make platforms out of void energy.

Possibly Seal Removal

Coral gaining her powers is potentially what caused Cthulhu to awaken from his seal

Flight

Look at her gooooo

Incantations

By conjuring abstract symbols and uttering some magic words, she can access even powerful skills than what she usually does. Can also use hand motions to amplify her attacks and other abilities

Binding Contracts

Sometimes, it's in an eldritch creature's best interest to agree to a magical binding contract than become completely obliterated. This ensures they won't act out of line while keeping their life.

Statistics Manipulation

She can alter how powerful her own abilities are as easy as turning on a light switch.

Enhanced Strength and Durability

As an arcane user, her cells are smaller and more packed together, which makes her tougher overall.

Tentacle Constructs

Coral can summon void tentacles from her portals to ensnare people

Enhanced Hearing

Much like her enhanced tracking, Coral has exceptional hearing

Perception Manipulation

With an incantation, she can make her barriers blur the view of anything viewing it from the outside. This affects technology too.

Techniques

Warp Cut

Tail swipe makes a crescent projectile of void energy. She can shoot it out or whip it around with her tail

Warp Gates

Coral creates slit-like void portals called Warp Gates so that projectiles may enter them, before showering upon her foe in an x-shaped portal above them

Shielding

Coral can pool arcane energy around specific parts of her body to deflect arcane projectiles

Feats

Overall

  • As the wielder of the Void, she's the strongest known creature in the universe
  • Pinpointed the exact location of a being waking up across half the planet
  • Had Cthulhu under her hypothetical thumb right after he woke up from his slumber of thousands of years

Strength

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

  • Coral only recently realized her powers and humanlike sentience. Even at such a young state she is immensely powerful and prodigious thanks to the Void providing her with the necessary knowledge and skills, but it should still be noted how inexperienced she is
  • Coral doesn't let her powers get to her head, but that doesn't stop her from having a huge ego
  • Any arcane users with powers comparable to her own would be able to break through her barriers
  • There has never been a Void Holder who was naturally talented in creating complex barriers or manipulating primal energy

Matchup Potential

Coral vs Kitty Jenkins (Coral of the Void vs F*ck You Kitty Jenkins)

Vibe Check

Connections: Two cosmic cat webcomic protagonists that may seem cutesy in nature, but are far more dangerous than one could ever imagine. They are the guardians of their universes and bear immense power, helping maintain the status quo of their worlds. While Coral is a cat whose job is to hunt eldritch beings, Kitty Jenkins is as eldritch as it gets.

Before the reboot, Coral was a lot more unhinged. She uses her powers more often for her own pleasure and has screwed over the lives of others for the fun of it. While the reboot is still in its early stages, Coral is a lot more dignified than how she previously was. Gone is the chaotic wild card before, now she is the chaotic smug asshole who relishes in her own power, while also being a big mentor figure. So putting her against a genuine eldritch threat really enhances the contrasts of this matchup.

I'd be down to make a blog on Kitty Jenkins sometime. He's a magical three-eyed space cat who pops into people's lives and sends them on journeys through time and meowter space that they don't want to go on. In the end, they learn nothing, and often results in irreparable damage to their lives. He's the exact type of fucky being Coral would hunt down to deal with, so that really helps tell a story throughout the fight. Since Coral is experienced fighting reality-threatening horrors, she'd be able to handle his insane barrage of hax and screwball powers during the battle.

However, the ending likely wouldn't go well for Coral, as the debate sums it best. While Coral inherited the power that created the universe, Kitty Jenkins is responsible for the entire cosmology of his series. And the cosmology of his series is a lot more abstract and expansive than just a universe. While the fight would be largely comedic, over time, I want it to become clear that something's wrong. By the time Kitty Jenkins reveals the full scope of his influence over all realities, it's too late. He's on a scale she can't begin to comprehend. Kitty Jenkins is a very psychedelic and weird series, so I'd like the death to really reflect the bizarre dread the series is known for.

NEXT TIME ON WCAB… whenever I feel like it
