Welcome back to the blog! I've covered a broad spectrum of webcomics throughout the years. I've talked about forum quests, manhwa and webmanga, gamer comics, an entirely 3D series, even a niche fetish webcomic. However, this marks the first time I finally cover a #relatable gag-a-day series. You could argue the Butch blog falls into that category too, but I imagine being a funny lesbian with anxiety is more relatable than being a serial killer. Get real lmao.
The issue with finding characters in this genre worthy for blogs is that most aren't that VS viable. They tend to just fall into the slice of life genre, which is hardly ever combat applicable. A majority of Rae the Doe is no different, but you'd be surprised by how powerful this funny doe is.

Meet Rachel Theresa Doe, or Rae the Doe!
What are the first things Rae would want you to know after first meeting her? Well, she's very gay for her punk girlfriend Mimi the Skunk, she's proudly trans, and she deals with anxiety and self-doubt on a daily basis. Rae faces relatable tribulations like overanalyzing what people think of her, seasonal depression, and feeling self-conscious about her media literacy.
Rae has borderline personality disorder, meaning things that seem insignificant to others feel world-ending to her. She may be infamously nervous, but she's also an optimist. She can be hopeful and passionate, especially regarding her interests. She has her nerdy hyperfixations like video games and Star Trek, but she enjoys watching sports like baseball and wrestling too. She also doesn't shy away from voicing her thoughts on political, corporate, and tech world discourse.
Rae is a cartoonist who writes about her life with all her friends, much like this webcomic! She's had a hard time seeing value in her art since she was discouraged from pursuing it as a career at a young age. Thankfully with the support of her friends she’s gained the confidence to put her comic out there and have it syndicated at a comic company.
While the webcomic mainly focuses on her relatable jokes and shenanigans with her friends, her life isn't completely grounded. She has a rivalry with Death himself and she's buddies with the Jersey Devil. They and everyone else are often subjected to her groan-worthy puns. Her pun game is on a whole other level, so much so that her puns are capable of distorting reality to suit the results of her punchlines.
For whatever reason, Rae's puns give her the power to do practically anything. Cracking jokes has led her to control her elasticity, see into the future, and utterly demolish the fourth wall… and that's just Rae without even trying! When she learned to intentionally weaponize her puns, she wound up destroying the universe (the author Olive fixed it by the end)!
Leeeet's reel it back for a bit. Rae is also one of the rare characters who age with her webcomic. Her series started when she was 22, and by the time of writing this she’s 30. With age comes new experiences like watching her friends marrying, having relatable hiccups with medicine, and forming weirdly specific opinions. At 29 years-old, Rae and Mimi finally married!
Despite the changes over the years, she’s still terrified everyday just as she was before. Regardless, she also does what she did everyday before that: she draws, loves, lives, tries her best.

Rae’s puns come naturally to her, but in the Rae the Doe VII: Remake special, Rae learns to intentionally use her puns to get her needs met, using them to destroy the remade universe.
She also doubles as the superhero Cardinal, sidekick to Bat-Bat keeping New Jersey safe.

Necronomicube
The Necronomicube is a supernatural game console originally owned by Death. It can absorb peoples’ souls and bring them into the world of whatever game is booted up inside it. The only way to break out is by completing the game.
Elden Blood Souls: Dark Demons Die is the sole game that has been showcased for the console. If you can tell by the name, it’s described as THE hardest game of ALL TIME, where dying is guaranteed. It’s filled with hard as balls enemies, unfair traps, too many status debuffs, and challenging bosses. Thankfully said game has infinite lives, so no matter how many times you die you’d just come back to life (that is, unless you give up and just become a zombie).

It's not just a one-off thing, there's an entire strip series where she goes back in various points in time. She wound up messing up history so that gravity was never discovered. She apparently invented time travel because she didn’t want to draw (ignore Olive the author is a deer in that page).

At one point she unionized against her creator Olive. Olive wasn’t even writing the characters’ words anymore they just became that self-aware.
Rae can bulldoze through panels, use a ladder to climb outside her panel, change the size of her speech bubbles by shouting, and destroyed the panels on a page—making it impossible to delineate between one moment and the next.

The answer is simple: Rae's puns have the power to distort reality to her will. Matchup Potential
I feel like it shouldn't be too hard to craft a fitting matchup for Rae the Doe. She has relatable humor, ties into anxiety and lgbtq+ acceptance, and harbors inexplicable reality warping powers. A character like Chikn Nuggit would be perfect for her if Rae's reality warper lore was as crucial to her character as Chikn's is. Noko Shikanoko would also be peak if Nokotan had remotely comparable powers. As it stands, the slice of life misadventures and japes take precedence.
